Donegal Film Festival will debut in June 2027 with the focus on short films from independent filmmakers around Ireland.
Open to all genres.
DCP format preferred but not essential.
Donegal Film Festival is committed to supporting and celebrating the independent filmmaking community in County Donegal. We want to shine a light on the talent being created across the county, which is why we have introduced a dedicated award recognising outstanding filmmaking in Donegal.
Along with short films the "Made in Donegal" category also welcomes Music videos, documentaries, animation and expiremental work.
The film run time should be no longer than 20 minutes (including credits)
Exceptions may be made for the "Made in Donegal" category. Contact Festival Organiser to discuss.
Eligible Donegal Filmmakers can also enter the "Irish short" category as well as "Made in Donegal"
Made in Donegal category - The production must be filmed in the County of Donegal, with the majority of crew and cast either from or living in the county.
Best Donegal Filmmaker award is eligible to those who are currently living , or originally from Donegal. (Please contact festival organiser with proof of residence or any other queries relating to this category)
We are committed to showcasing the outstanding short films from emerging and established filmmakers, not just from Donegal, but all around the island of Ireland.
More awards may be added as the Festival approcahes.
This a volunteer led, Non profit organistation. All funds raised will be used towards the running of the festival.
Conflict of Intereset Rule: Festival organisers and judges will not be eligible for awards or prize money.

Rules
GENERAL RULES
All submitted work must be the original creation of the entrant, and the entrant must hold full rights to all content included (including music, footage, and any third-party materials).
The festival reserves the right to reject any film deemed unsuitable.
By submitting, entrants grant Donegal Film Festival the right to screen and promote the film as part of the festival, including use in marketing materials.
Submission fees are non-refundable.
The festival reserves the right to make final decisions on all selections and awards.

***DEADLINE For submissions is 11:59pm on Friday the 30th April 2027***
Notification:
Applicants will be notified of the status of their submission by email by Monday 14th May 2027. After this date, the status of submissions will be available to view on FilmFreeway. Successful applicants will be required to supply a video master for screening at Donegal Film Festival 2027.
- Please note that DFF cannot acknowledge receipt of entries.
- All foreign language entries must provide English subtitles
- Submissions with unpaid fees will not be considered for selection.
Category - Irish Short
Submitted films to be filmed on the Island of Ireland or by an Irish filmmaker.
Proof may be requested.
Category - Made In Donegal
Submitted work must be filmed in the county of Donegal with preference made to crew and cast, living, or born in the local area.
